Mannitol is white crystalline powder; odorless and sweet. Soluble in water, almost insoluble in ethanol and ether. Melting point 166-170 ℃. Boiling point 290-295 ℃. It is stable in sterile solution and is not easily oxidized by oxygen in the air.

1. Medical applications
Mannitol is a good diuretic in medicine, reducing intracranial pressure, intraocular pressure and treating kidney medicine, dehydration medicine, sugar substitute, and also used as an excipient for tablets and a diluent for solid and liquid.
2. Food field
In terms of food, the product has the least water absorption among sugars and sugar alcohols, and has a refreshing sweetness. It is used for anti-sticking of maltose, chewing gum, rice cakes and other foods, and as anti-sticking powder for general pastries. Dibromomannitol can be obtained by reaction with hydrobromic acid.
